Jeep and Mopar Unleash 6 Concept Vehicles at Easter Jeep Safari

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee TrailhawkOur Crestview Chrysler staff was pumped up about the 47th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Utah, as this is an event that us Jeep fanatics want to keep tabs on. The collaboration between Jeep and Mopar has consistently produced quality Jeep concept vehicles, and at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari, there were several stand-outs. With the inclusion of Jeep performance parts, off-road enthusiasts will be pleasantly surprised by the customization options offered to Jeep vehicles. These parts can essentially turn a stock Jeep into an all-terrain beast capable of whatever you customize it to do. Let’s check out these concept vehicles that underwent this transformation!

The Wrangler Mopar Recon

Stacked to the brim with powerful new additions, the Wrangler Mopar Recon and Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept are forces to be reckoned with. The Wrangler Recon is equipped with a 6.4L HEMI V-8 engine that pumps out a whopping 470 hp. Not a car to simply boast about its power under the hood, the Recon also comes with premium Mopar interior features, modified “Stinger” bumpers, and 39-inch off-road tires.

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

The Trailhawk Concept is powered by an EcoDiesel V-6 engine that gives its drivers plenty of low-end torque to navigate any rough terrain. The blood-orange paint, Grand Cherokee SRT hood, SRT modified front and rear fascias for additional ground clearance, and the 35-inch tires are all design testaments to the Grand Cherokee’s off-road mastery.

The Jeep Wrangler Stitch

The Wrangler Stitch is one of the lightest Jeep concepts ever, sporting a mere curb weight of 1,361 kg. Jeep spared no expense when shaving the weight of this concept. Everything from the frame to the interior was cut down to keep the vehicle as light as possible while still providing an intense off-road experience with Mickey Thompson 35-inch tires, custom DynaTrac Pro Rock axles, and pneumonic bump stops provided by King shocks.

Wrangler Sand Trooper II

The Wrangler Sand Trooper II is an experimental combination of power and convenience. A 5.7L HEMI V-8 with 375 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque is well hidden behind a satin black grille and hood lock. The interior is equipped with a rearview camera display and leather seat for an added touch of comfort.

The Jeep Wrangler Slim

The Slim is a barebones concept from Jeep, but don’t be fooled! It still provides huge performance, while maintaining a light curb weight. A 3.6L V-6 engine powers this scrappy two-door automobile, and the all-back interior is outfitted with leather seat covers, Mopar all-weather slush mats, and a CB radio. Mopar also equipped the Slim with the lightest rear-bumper possible on a Jeep, which complements the 10th Anniversary Rubicon front bumper very nicely.

The Wrangler Flattop

The Flattop is a concept in luxury from Jeep and Mopar. Dark saddle Katzkin leather seating, steering wheel spokes featuring copper accents, and a rich dark brown exterior turned heads at the Easter Jeep Safari. However, the Flattop is still an off-road vehicle at heart. It is equipped with a Mopar cold-air intake, exhaust, DynaTrac Pro axles, and full-traction control arms to handle any ride.

The additional Blacktop features include:

  • 20-inch aluminum wheels with gloss black centre caps

Connected Cars are the New “Big Thing”

2013 Ram 1500

Stay Connected in the 2013 Ram 1500

It seems that 2013 is turning into the year for “connected cars”, as more and more models are being built with Internet access and the corresponding features that connect you to the outside world. This news is really exciting for any car lovers, including us over at Crestview Chrysler in Regina. Connected cars are the third quickest growing technological devices, just following mobile phones and tablets, and research indicates that pretty soon a huge chunk of the value of a car will be attributed to its effectiveness for connectivity and telematics. Experts in the industry expect the market will increase rapidly due to telematics requirements from the government, such as stolen vehicle tracking. Before we know it, every vehicle is going to be connected through a cellular network!

The Hot News About Hot Spots

Over thirty vehicle manufacturers have introduced telematic services. The 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas showcased several self-driving vehicles, which have to be connected to Wi-Fi or they simply crash. Also at this show, AT&T introduced its connected car program, and the AT&T CEO said that he predicts 20 million cars with connected telematics systems will be available to consumers as soon as next year.

We already see some features of connectivity as mainstream features, such as Bluetooth technology, Pandora accessibility, and mobile device integration. Future connected cars will have lots of features besides these and Wi-Fi hot spots, including doors that open with biometric sensors, automatic weather and traffic updates delivered through the vehicle’s audio system, and infotainment systems that recognize and respond to different drivers.

Connected cars also allow drivers to share their locations in real-time with friends. A system called “Glympse” allows your friends to see, on their in-car screens, your photo, your speed, and the estimated time that you’ll reach your destination or a get-together. Connected cars will let drivers use sites like Yelp together with navigation to find restaurants and other services in seconds, complete with reviews.

Drive a Chrysler Connected Vehicle!

Chrysler’s first connected vehicle is the 2013 Ram 1500. Through the Sprint wireless network, this truck has its own available built-in wireless connection, which allows drivers to control voice-activated Bing searches and dictate text messages while driving. Visit Crestview Chrysler today to test drive this high-tech pick up!

What is a Low-Energy Vehicle?

Crestview ChryslerAt our Regina-area Dodge dealership, we sell more and more low-energy vehicles as the days go by. You have certainly heard of low-energy vehicles before, though you may not have known the term. LEVs are cars that are designed to use less power than a normal car to try to lower the dependency on gasoline and reduce emissions. These include hybrid cars, electric vehicles, and other alternatively-fueled vehicles. While once an anomaly, they now come in all shapes and sizes: compacts, sedans, and even pickup trucks.

Hybrid Cars

One of the types of LEVs that’s made a substantial impact, the hybrid car uses a combination of gas and electricity to operate the car. The more electricity the car uses, the more it cuts down on gas usage. Many types of these vehicles, like new Dodge hybrid cars, use only electricity at lower speeds (when you drive around town) and then save the gas for when you hit the highway. Of course, there are also all-electric vehicles available. Hybrids cars also feature other types of technology, such as regenerative braking, to further reduce energy costs.

While some drivers were were turned off by hybrids due to the initially unusual shapes and prohibitive costs,  they are now a regular staple of showrooms after adopting more common designs and affordable pricing. Many models feature a hybrid option, and there’s really no reason why you wouldn’t want to get one. Who doesn’t love paying less for gas?

Alternative Fuel LEVs

There are also a few other low-energy vehicles available on the market, using alternative fuels like hydrogen and ethanol, but they are not as widely used as hybrids. Hydrogen gas is everywhere, and when used as a fuel, produces water as a byproduct instead of pollutants. Unfortunately, the process of using it for fuel can still be expensive, and many drivers are dubious of its safety, despite evidence that hyrdogen-powered cars are often safer than traditional cars.

The same is true of ethanol, which is made from plants and has appeared as E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and gasoline. Scientists are constantly working on these new technologies, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself driving a corn-powered car in the future.

Test Drive a Fuel-Efficient Car at Crestview Chrysler Dodge Jeep

Besides protecting our environment and preserving fossil fuels, the greatest benefit to low-energy vehicles for Regina-area drivers is the fuel economy. No one likes filling up, and a low-energy car is certainly going to help reduce fuel costs.

The 2013 Dodge Dart is a Joy to Drive

2013 Dodge Dart

2013 Dodge Dart

Borrowing design points from Alfa Romeo, drivers from Frankslake will find that the 2013 Dodge Dart is an agile vehicle on the open road. Available in 3 trims with plenty of sporty options and engine upgrades, this compact sedan set to make quite the impression on the roads of Canada. Whether you’re in Frankslake, Regina, or areas farther flung, come visit Crestview Chrysler to test drive this new model.

A European Touch for North America

The 2013 Dodge Dart is a pleasure to drive because of fine-tuned components borrowed from the Alfa Romeo Giuliette that European motorists are familiar with. Its suspension, steering, and basic structure have been modified from its cousin across the sea, and it comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 160 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. If you prefer a little more jump, there’s the choice of a more powerful turbocharged 1.4L motor that makes 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. When the R/T model becomes available, you’ll also be able to get a 2.4L engine that will give you 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque.

Even though it’s a compact car, drivers will enjoy the fact that it feels like a larger model. It’s wider than one would first expect, and this is added benefit because it means more passenger room. The cabin also offers a refined aesthetic, and it sports distinctive touches like ambient lighting.

Dodge also went out of its way to give owners many possibilities for customizing the exterior. With a wide range of colors, and 3 trims for the sedan lineup, Frankslake drivers can match the 2013 Dodge Dart to their precise taste.

Integrated seamlessly into such stylized options are smart safety features designed to protect passengers. With 10 standard airbags, reactive front head restraints, and a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-path detection, it’s no wonder that this 4-door is considered a class-leader when it comes to safeguarding travelers.

Contemporary drivers also expect the excellent technology features. The 2013 Dart is available with a 7-inch programmable cluster display, the Uconnect Touch infotainment system, and a key fob that includes a push-button start.

You want style? You’ve got it! The 2013 Dart was named among the “10 Coolest Cars Under $18,000” by Consumer Guide Automotive.
